Versus Kongorong
Our Junior Colts and A Grade had strong wins at Kongorong last weekend, but unfortunately our Senior Colts and Reserves went down fighting against the Hawks.?
The Junior Colts won by 64 points. Sam Sutherland kicked three goals, while Zach Jones kicked two and Lachie Jackman-Tilley, Louis Brown, Tom Jackman-Tilley, Max Telfer and Jack Gray all kicked a goal each. Well done boys!
The Senior Colts fought hard throughout their entire match, but when a few players went down with injuries, they were really up against it and unfortunately lost.
Sam Waring again was a stand out and is turning into a fantastic ruckman. He not only wins the ruck, but he also takes contested marks around the ground. Dillon Jones was great in defence, he stopped many attacks and rebounded strongly with the ball.
Brett Watson was at his consistent best; he worked both ways and found plenty of the ball. While Tyler Snook may not have got gotten many possessions, he worked hard in defence and didn?t give his opponents an inch.
Tom Schulz battled hard all day and got plenty of the ball, again leading by example. In wet and slippery conditions it was important, especially in defence, to have clean skills. This is exactly what Kenty had, he used the ball well and helped turn defence into attack.
Awards: Sam Waring (Seebohm?s Sportspower), Dylan Jones (C. Gilbertson), Brett Watson (G. Nilsson), Tyler Snook (HFC Ladies Committee) and Tom Schulz (HSRC Steak).
It is a very important game this week for the Senior Colts against Kalangadoo and could determine whether we make the finals or not.
The Reserves were greeted by bleary skies that resembled our esteemed President?s eyes after his big day of golf! He knows how he got his headache, but he can?t work out where the gravel rash and twenty cent piece behind his ear came from!
The Reserves took to the field hoping to give the ladder leaders a run for their money. We battled hard all day but no matter how hard we tried it was like they always had two extra players. Sam Fitzgerald led from the front and got plenty of touches all over the ground. Joey rucked well and Tim ?the expectant dad? Loveday showed he is still a classy player in his first game back from injury. Shane ?Casper? Lambert provided the forwards with plenty of opportunities, but in the end we just couldn?t get over the line.
Awards: Sam Fitzgerald (K&S Ampol), Sean Brennan (Dave Reilly?s Panel & Paint), Shane Lambert (Beachport Hotel), and Joe Campbell (Prince of Wales Hotel).
The A Grade needed to win against Kongorong to cement their spot in the top four and ensure they would play finals football this season. In tough conditions and with a few changes to the team, we still managed to play some good football and win the points!
Again, over the course of the game we had a lot of the play, but did not capitalise on it and should have put more scores on the board. Jack Skeer played had a good day in the forward line, leading well and providing us with a good target. Jase Faulkner, Tyler Saunders and Todd Watson had solid games through the middle, providing plenty of drive.
Trav Kneen and Luke Haines stepped up from B Grade for the week and were valuable contributors throughout the course of the game, proving they are both still capable of playing in the later game of the day.
Awards: Mat Faulkner (Millicent Golf), Jason Faulkner (Somerset Hotel), Todd Watson (Beachport Hotel) and Jack Skeer (Prince of Wales Hotel).
We now need to continue to play good team footy as we head into the finals!
