Back when Sony announced the Xperia GX and Xperia SX there was no mention of any launch outside of the company's native Japan. The manufacturer was quick to highlight the fact that these devices designed specifically for the Japanese market and that they had no news to share at the time about any international launch plans. That said though, the Xperia GX has now popped up at the FCC and is noted as having a pentaband 3G radio onboard to go along with Android 4.0, a 4.6-inch 720p Sony Reality display and a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. In other words, a Sony device a lot of folks might actually be interested in if it was made readily available outside of Japan.
A non-US device making its way through the FCC isn't necessarily news, as even foreign phones need approval of they're to be used by visitors to the U.S. But the different radio frequencies (and lack of LTE) makes this Xperia GX a tantalizing proposition, and something we might eventually see released internationally. We'll be watching for any developments at IFA, where we're expecting a few bug phone-related announcements from Sony Mobile.
